There are many conditions which can be helped by my specially tailored treatment program. A brief, but not exhaustive, list;
Depression, Phobias, Stress, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Sexual Problems, Bedwetting in children and adults, habits such as nail biting, Sports Performance, skin conditions such as eczema and acne, Confidence issues and, of course, Smoking Cessation and Weight Control.
Can you diagnose medical conditions?
For the treatment of medical conditions I always advise clients to consult their GP before a course of treatment starts, unless they have already done so. My training in these therapies is thorough and extensive, but I am not medically qualified to dagnose. I always prefer to work in partnership with your doctor. Not only will this confirm my educated opinion of your condition, but it will ensure that our treatments do not clash.
Can your therapies help with habits I have had for a long time?
Definitely, assuming that you are willing to let them go. It is important to remember that habits and emotional conditions have a root cause, which may be buried deep in the subconscious. I help my clients to identify the cause and deal with it appropriately, removing its power to drive unhelpful habits and conditions. The danger lies in terminating therapy too quickly - once negative thoughts have been dealt with, more positive thoughts and feelings must be put in their place.
Are these therapies just a 'Quick fix'?
Yes and no. Many people are amazed by the rapidity with which they lose long held and unhelpful behaviours, thoughts and feelings. There is usually very little emotional scar tissue and the client can return to a happy and fulfilling life quickly and smoothly. Assuming that you have consulted a qualifed, ethical therapist then the effects of treatment should last a lifetime.
How can you be sure that positive results aren't just a result of the placebo effect?
It is well known that if a sick person maintains a positive attitude, then they recover much more quickly. Even if their illness is terminal, the quality and length of life can be greatly enhanced. This phenomenon has nothing to do with medicine but is purely an example of the emotions working upon the body. Positivity boosts the immune system, it is as simple as that. What is true for the body is true for the mind - by helping my clients deal with negative thought and feelings, the positive is allowed to shine through, and the 'emotional immune system' can get to work. I then give my clients the tools they need to maintain this healthy outlook for life.
Are there any risks to my mental health?
At your free initial consultation you will be asked to complete a confidential intake form. On this form I will ask you to detail any mental or physical health problems which may affect your therapy. If you are already being treated for a mental health problem then I will liaise with your doctors to give you the best possible care. If I should suspect a problem which you were not aware of, or have not notified me about, I will consult with your doctor before offering further treatment.
Why is hypnotherapy not available through the NHS?
Some GPs do offer hypnotherapy. The National Council for Hypnotherapy are arguing that hypnotherapist should, by law, attend a recognised training establishment and achieve a recognised qualification. Many therapists, unfortunately, have not received the thorough and ethical training the NCH would like to make compulsory. The NCH would also like hypnotherapy to be more widely recognised within the NHS as the powerful, complimentary therapy that it is.
How many sessions will I need?
That depends on your problem and how well you respond to my combination of therapies. A stop smoking course consists of three sessions, weight control typically needs three to six sessions. Deeper problems can take up to twenty sessions. I have two golden rules here at Wonderful World Life Therapy. First of all, I am only willing to accept clients who are 100% committed to changing their lives for the better. Secondly, I have a policy of limiting the number of sessions wherever possible. This policy is also in accordance with the Code of Ethics of my governing body, the National Council for Hypnotherapy.
Will it be expensive?
My rates are very reasonable and I will only offer you as many, or as few, sessions as I feel you need. My smoking cessation clients have found that their sessions soon pay for themselves once they are no longer buying cigarettes. Certainly, in comparison to your health, the outlay for hypnotherapy is very little.
What is your success rate?
Again, that depends entirely upon the commitment of my clients. So far my methods have met with huge success, but I am aware that each client is an individual and I refuse to rest on my laurels. As far as I am concerned I have only one priority - YOU and your success!
Will I be made to act like a fool?
Never. Although stage hypnotists have their entertainment value, I believe that my clients and their problems deserve nothing but respect. I will never do anything to compromise that.
Why don't you have success stories or testimonials?
Because it is against my code of ethics. My clients are more than happy to recommend me to their friends but I would never ask them to breach confidentiality.
Why do you have three sessions to stop smoking, but other therapists have only one?
I have spoken to many people over the years who have stopped smoking after one session. Often, the effects last for only a few months, then the urge for a cigarette becomes too strong. Sometimes the client has gained so much weight that they don't feel becoming a non-smoker was really worth it. With my three-session plan I not only help rid you of the desire to smoke, I help you to put in place non-smoking strategies which will last you for life.
What workshops do you do?
I run stress management, smoking cessation and Slim4Life workshops in Central Watford. I can also come to your place of work to run any of the workshops. I often give short talks to clubs and networking groups, mainly on stress management.
I am in the process of adding more questions, just send me an e-mail if there is something you'd like to know.
